Event Details

Piedmont Jazz Alliance is proud to present the talented Natalie Boeyink, an accomplished jazz bassist with a history of successful collaborations with some of the most prominent musicians in the industry, including Terri Lyne Carrington, David 'Fathead' Newman, Jon Hendricks, and David Liebman. Boeyink boasts an extensive musical education, having earned a BM in Jazz Studies from Indiana University and an MM in Jazz Performance from the University of Louisville, and currently serves as Associate Professor of Jazz Studies at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music.

Natalie's latest project, Batuquê Trio, came from a shared passion for Afro-Latin music and jazz. The trio, which includes pianist Jamaal Baptiste and drummer Andy P. Smith, blends a myriad of Latin jazz styles, from the folkloric roots of Cuban and Brazilian music to contemporary trends in Afro-Cuban, Brazilian and Caribbean jazz. The term batuquê refers to Afro-Brazilian polyrhythmic drumming and dance. their debut album, Transparency, which gives listeners an exciting take on familiar tunes and showcases original compositions steeped in groove. Batuquê Trio has performed at countless jazz festivals and education conferences nationwide, receiving widespread acclaim for its innovative music and captivating performances. The trio will release a new recording in 2024.

Join us in experiencing the magic of Batuquê Trio's unparalleled musicianship.
